Cycle Tours

New to Outdoor Adventure, our outdoor cycling programs provide unforgettable experiences through overnight cycle tours across the eastern United States and Atlantic Canada.  These tours are be led by one of Maine's most skilled and experienced cyclists, Erik DaSilva and Jeremy Robichaud, the Bangor YMCA's Adventure Recreation and Program Development Director.  There are three tours planned for 2013: First, Lancaster County (Amish Country,) Pennsylvania.  Second, a repeat of our 2012 trip across Prince Edward Island.  Third, a three day journey through the Green Mountains of Vermont.

Erik DaSilva is a father of two who lives in Orono, Maine.  Erik has been cycling his whole life for fun and competitively.  He is well known and respected in the local cycling community as he often organizes and leads tours for groups just for fun. From 2002 to 2005 Erik coached the Drexel University cycling team and has work in numerous cycling shops.  Erik works as a  consultant and teacher for the Bicycle Coalition of Maine and is a certified instructor for the League of American Cyclists.

Jeremy Robichaud has been working with the Bangor YMCA for two years.  Before coming to the YMCA, Jeremy  coordinated a Therapeutic Recreation program in Ellsworth for 4 years.  Jeremy is a Registered Maine Guide,  a Nationally  Registered EMT and Wilderness-EMT.  In addition to his work with the YMCA, Jeremy is employed as a  Level II Facilitator at Project Adventure, Inc., as an EMT at Capital Ambulance, as an Instructor for SOLO Wilderness  Medical School and as a  guide for Acadia Mountain Guides and Climbing School.  Jeremy has independently cycle toured  the South Island of New Zealand and from Melbourne to Sydney, Australia.

Unless otherwise stated, all of the Bangor YMCA's cycle tours are supported; all gear is transported by a support van.  While Erik and Jeremy work hard to pre-plan all routes they reserve the right to adjust and change daily routes based on group need or interest, weather, road conditions, campground availability, bike condition or for any number of unforeseeable circumstances.

Transportation is provided by the Bangor YMCA and all meals are planned by Katie Mroz, the Bangor YMCA's certified nutritionist.

All cyclist must provide their own bikes and helmets.  Mountain bikes, racing bikes and tri-bikes are not recommended.  Touring bikes are ideal, however, road bikes and cross-bikes are acceptable.  It is highly recommended that each participant have their bike inspected by a local gear shop prior to the trip.
